Natural Habitat: Pastures and abandoned fields; dry, rocky or sandy sites.
Tree Form:Very small evergreen conifer tree; narrow pyramid shape, especially when young; opens up with maturity and can be as wide as tall.
Size At Maturity: Small tree 10 m high 33 feet

Wildlife: Good nesting and roosting cover; blue, berry-like cones are eaten by birds and small mammals. Host plant for rare Juniper Hairstreak butterfly (Callophrys grynea).
Notes: Easily transplanted and easy to grow; tolerant of most conditions including drought and heat. Is pH adaptable and tolerates a wide range of soil types, but does best on well-drained limestone-derived soils.
