Good nesting and roosting cover; blue, berry-like cones are eaten by birds and small mammals. Host plant for rare Juniper Hairstreak butterfly (Callophrys grynea).
Notes:
Easily transplanted and easy to grow; tolerant of most conditions including drought and heat. Is pH adaptable and tolerates a wide range of soil types, but does best on well-drained limestone-derived soils.
