Beaked Hazel Corylus cornuta
Name, French:Noisetier à long bec
Name, Other:Beaked Hazelnut, Wild Filbert, (Corylus rostrata)
Natural Habitat: Understorey in mixed forests, edges of woods, thickets, clearings.
Tree Form:Small shrub; upright branches; multi-stemmed.
Size At Maturity: Shrub 3 - 4 m high 10 - 13 feet

Water Requirement: (scale of 1-5)
Wildlife: Less attractive to birds than to mammals such as chipmunks and red squirrels, but makes a good nest shrub.
Notes: Plant in informal situations. Flowers in catkins appear before the leaves in Spring. Does best on well-drained, loamy soils but can grow in wet conditions. The beaked nuts are edible and in the past were much more commonly eaten by humans.
