Natural Habitat: Low ground, thickets, edges of woods, roadsides, fence rows, rich moist lowlands.
Tree Form:Small tree or large multi-stemmed shrub with broad and rounded crown.
Size At Maturity: Small tree or a shrub 3 m high 10 feet

Wildlife: Good nest tree. Fruit eaten by many species of birds.
Notes: Transplants easily. Clusters of white flowers in July; edible purple-black berries. Perhaps best when massed in naturalized areas where suckering spread is acceptable. Also effective in shrub borders, roadside plantings, wet or low areas, as a screen or as part of a native plant garden. Does best in moist, humous soils, but will tolerate dry soils and is pH adaptable. Tolerates some shade.
