    Annual Native Plant Sale
Saturday, 2 June, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., FWG (see map and directions)
This annual fund raiser is a good opportunity to learn more about native plant gardening, ask questions, get advice and buy plants not often found in local nurseries. Donations of native plants and seeds are always welcome (species native to eastern Ontario only). Please bring them to the FWG any Friday morning or call us at 613-234-6767 or 613-730-0714; we'd be happy to pick them up from you.

    Pollinator Workshop
    Fletcher Wildlife Garden
    Saturday June 9, 1-4 pm
(rain date Saturday, June 16, 9-12 am)
Join us for this free workshop to learn how to identify non-honey bee pollinator insects. Presented by the Pollinator Monitoring Network of Environment Canada. One hour introductory lecture and 2 hours of field study. Pre-registration required by June 4. Minimum 10 participants, maximum 20. Contact Heather Hamilton at 613-826-2190 or hhamilton@magma.ca

    OFNC Awards
Congratulations to FWG volunteers Annie Bélair (left top) and Isabelle Nicol (left below), who both won Ottawa Field-Naturalist Club awards this year. Annie was chosen Member of the Year and Isabelle was honoured for her teaching with the Mary Stuart Education Award. See the OFNC web site for details. And you'll find the names of many other FWG volunteers who have been recognized for their valuable contributions to the garden and the OFNC.

    Nature walks in June
    FWG (see map and directions)

Wednesday, 13 June, 7 to 9 p.m. — This is a lovely time of day to spot interesting wildlife. This walk will feature the pond and the bird, amphibian and insect activity associated with it.

Thursday, 21 June, 10 a.m. to noon — Bring binoculars, cameras, field guides if you have them. This will be a general nature walk to show you the diversity to be found in this small urban wild space. This walk is limited to 12 participants. Please register at the Club number, 613 722-3050.

    In cyberspace

OFNC Publications — We finally have a (nearly) complete list of OFNC publications including many Trail & Landscape special issues containing keys to local species of native plants.

Blog revived — We hear you missed our Blog! In the depths of winter, there wasn't much to report and as spring began, we were so busy growing plants for our sale, there was little time for the web site. However, now that there's so much happening at the garden, we've revived the Blog. Christine Hanrahan, in particular, has contributed many photos and reports of what she sees at the FWG.
