OFNC Member I know that this is a busy time of year for everyone. In the middle of it I am asking you to take time to send an email to the mayor with a copy to your councillor. This will be voted on this Wednesday so time is of the essence. Below is the email from Stan Rosenbaum, Chair, Conservation Committee as well as email addresses for the mayor and Councillor. This is not just an issue for Kanata but for all of the Ottawa area - the same way that Mer Bleu is not just for the east end. I have pasted a map for those of you who are not familiar with the area. Beaver Pond is just on the north side of the Conservation Forest and the Beaver Pond Forest is the area to the north of the Pond. The white line is the much discussed Terry Fox extension. Please take a couple of minutes and send an email. You may use Stan's sample if that is easiest. Ann MacKenzie From Stan Rosenbaum, Chair of OFNC's Conservation CommitteeHELP TO SAVE THE BEAVER POND FOREST IN THE SOUTH MARCH HIGHLANDS! The South March Highlands is Ottawa's most significant natural area, and a substantial asset to the city of Ottawa. It is considered by experts to be among the most bio-diverse not just in Ontario but in Canada - and it lies inside the boundaries of the City. But parts of it are threatened by developement for housing. The Beaver Pond Forest is under the most imminent threat. Last November, the outgoing City Council voted to delay any development there, leaving this decision to the new City Council. The question now comes up for A VOTE ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15. The mayor and new council are well aware of this issue, and don't need a long letter explaining it. If you think the Beaver Pond Forest should be saved, just SEND A SHORT EMAIL TO THE MAYOR AND COPY IT TO YOUR COUNCILLOR! The mayor's email address is simply: Jim.Watson@ottawa.ca With a new council, if you need a reminder of which councillor now represents you and your Ward, see the list below. Here is what I sent. ========================================================================To: Mayor Jim Watson Jim.Watson@ottawa.ca Dear Mayor Jim Watson, As a resident of Ottawa, I am asking you to make the preservation of the Beaver Pond Forest a priority. As you know, the outgoing Council was in favour of this being done. Now it is up to you and your new Council. I hope you see the importance of doing this. name Cc: Councillor Mark Taylor Mark.Taylor@ottawa.ca OFFICE OF THE MAYORMayor Jim Watson FIND YOUR WARD AND COUNCILLOR
